Meeting on COVID-19 to be held on March 15
In light of the growing COVID-19 cases in Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru, Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa has called a high-level meeting here on Monday.
There have been increasing cases of detection of several groups in the state for the last several fortnight.
In addition, neighboring states Maharashtra and Kerala are also reporting higher cases, raising fears of a second wave in the state due to limited restrictions on inter-state agitation in the state.
‘No plans for lockdown’
Mr. Yeddyurappa also appealed to the public on Sunday to follow the COVID-19 protocol and cooperate with the government. “If the public does not want to face drastic measures like lockdown or curfew, it should cooperate with the government,” he warned.
“We have no proposal to impose lockdown now. But if matters escalate in the coming days, the situation may lead us to curfew or lockout.
The Chief Minister indicated that the movement of people of Maharashtra may be banned. He hinted at curbing the number of people taking part in marriages and other functions.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai, Minister of Health and Medical Education. Sudhakar, and others including Chief Secretary Ravi Kumar are likely to be involved.
Sources in the Chief Minister’s Office said that the discussion would revolve around implementing some tough measures to stop the spread.
