CITU: VSP Employees Movement Will Inspire Unions Of Other PSUs

Indian Trade Union (CITU) general secretary Tapan Kumar Sen said that the fight against privatization of VSPs by the workers and labor unions of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) would inspire the unions of various public sector units (PSUs) and other establishments. The country, which the government had decided to privatize in the coming days.

He was addressing a large gathering during the ‘Ukku Karmika Garjana’ organized by the Visakha Ukku enclosure Porata Samiti in Ukunagaram here on Saturday.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sen questioned why the VSP was interested in privatization rather than taking steps to bring the Center back to profit.

He also said that VSP is the only integrated steel plant in India and demanded that the center allocate closed mines instead of privatizing the plant.

He said that the Center was privatizing the VSP on the pretext that it was a loss-making entity, but policy makers should realize that the country’s GDP is also very low for the last two years. Will the government be privatized ?, he questioned. Shri Tapan Sen also alleged that the Center is deliberately privatizing public sector undertakings in the country.

INTUC President G. Sanjeeva Reddy condemned the move of the center to privatize the steel plant, which is a sentiment for the people of the state.

He said that people, workers, members of various labor unions should stop voting for the BJP in the next elections.

AITUC All India General Secretary Amarjeet Kaur appealed to all employees of various PSUs to join the movement against privatization of PSUs in the country including VSP.

He said that the fight of the VSP employees will get the support of the people from different areas in the state.

Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) DK Pandey said that they would not support the privatization policy of the BJP.

He also said that BMS will continue to support the movement against privatization of VSPs.
