The Orthodox Theological Seminary is a global Syrian music festival of approximately 300-strong choir from the Shruti School of Liturgical Music in Kottayam, which is being held in Geneva, with participation from the US, Syria, Lebanon and India.

Father Mathew Varghese said that Shruti School is among those invited to attend the online concert.

He added that the choirs of Kerala joined the concert on Sunday, which is the last day of the five-day concert series.

The Shruti School is engaged in popularizing and imparting knowledge on Syrian music. Father Varghese said that Syrian music was gaining popularity in the world, and that the concert series would be a positive step towards making it more popular in the future.

The Syriac music tradition is an Eastern heritage that symbolizes historical exchanges and influences.

The musical series is being organized by the High School of Music of Geneva (Haute लेcole de Muscic – HEM) in coordination with the Laus Plena Foundation, Lugano, Switzerland.

Shruti School has been invited to represent the Indian Syriac music tradition, said the director of the Shruti School of Liturgical Music in Kottayam, Drs. Invitation to Indian team addressed to Zakaria Mar Eparam (Metropolis).

The program focuses on a section with ancient Syriac melodies and texts, a section with mixed Syriac-Indian melodies, and a section with texts as well as pure Indian Syriac melodies and Indian texts.

One of the hymns is a combination of Syriac and Carnatic traditions composed by Father MP George.

Other concert participants include Karkosh, Iraq; Murdin and Mor Gabriel, from expatriates in Turkey, Biblos, Lebanon, and Europe.
