The Lakshadweep Marine Wildlife Conservation Force has detained a boat in Kanniyakumari district on charges of poaching a banned sea cucumber near a deserted island.
While the guard of the Lakshadweep Marine Wildlife Protection Force of Thinakkara anti-poaching camp was on night patrol around the uninhabited islands, they caught the hunters red-handed while catching sea cucumbers in two mechanized boats. The officials seized 6 crore६ giant size sea cucumbers worth seven million rupees and arrested seven poachers besides seizing the boats.
The boats along with the culprits were brought to the Agatti Range Office Headquarters for interrogation and a Wildlife Crime Report (First Information Report) was registered against them under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
The poachers – Julius Nayagam of Kanniyakumari, Jagannath Das of South Delhi, Paran Das of West Bengal, Sajan of Thiruvananthapuram and Abdul Jafar, Mohammad Hafeelu and Saklain Mushtaq, who hailed from Lakshadweep’s Agatti – presented before the Judicial Magistrate of Amini Island were done. judicial custody.
