BJP wants to overwhelm Delhi government’s powers through new bill: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday accused the BJP of seeking to reduce the powers of his elected government through a new bill in the Lok Sabha.

He also said that the bill is “contrary to the decision of the Constitution Bench”.

The National Capital Territory of Delhi (Amendment) Bill, 2021, which seeks to give more powers to the Lieutenant-Governor (LG) of Delhi, will be introduced in the lower house on Monday.

The national convenor of the AAP said in a tweet that he strongly condemned the “unconstitutional and anti-democracy move of BJP”.

“After being rejected by the PPP of Delhi (8 seats in the assembly, 8 seats in the MCD by-elections), the BJP today wants to reduce the powers of the elected government through a bill in LS. The Bill is contrary to the decision of the Constitution Bench. We strongly condemn the BJP’s unconstitutional anti-democracy move, ”Mr. Kejriwal tweeted.

“The bill says- 1. For Delhi,” Government “means LG, then what will the elected government do?… 2. All files will go to LG. This is against the decision of 4.7.18 Constitution Bench, which states That the files will not be sent to LG, the elected government will take all the decisions and send a copy of the decision to LG, ”he said in another tweet.
