BJP wanted me to stay indoors before elections: Mamata Banerjee

Addressing a public meeting at Gopiballapur in Jhargram district, Ms. Banerjee alleged that earlier it was the CPI-M, which used to attack her physically and now the BJP is doing the same.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that the opposition BJP wanted them to stay indoors before the West Bengal assembly elections, which apparently hurt them.

Addressing a public meeting at Gopiballapur in Jhargram district, Ms. Banerjee alleged that earlier it was the CPI-M, which used to attack her physically and now the BJP is doing the same.

“They (BJP) wanted to keep me indoors so that I could not go out during the elections. They have injured my leg, ”Ms. Banerjee said while addressing the election rally in a wheelchair.

The chief minister suffered injuries to his left leg in Nandigram on March 10 during a congestion as he opened the door to a market area welcoming people with his vehicle.

“They cannot break my voice, we will beat the BJP,” he said, while urging the people of the region to vote for TMC candidates.

He said, “The vote you cast for our candidates will be for me.” Ms. Banerjee claimed that although the BJP won the Jhargram Lok Sabha seat in 2019, the party MP did nothing for the region. She referred to the schemes launched by her government over the years, confirming that if voted to power it would ensure free doorstep delivery of rations.

Jhargram in Junglemahal region in the western part of the state, saw a BJP wave in 2019, in which the party won four Lok Sabha seats in the region.
