Former India spinner Bishan Singh Bedi has been discharged after bypass surgery after spending nearly three weeks in a city hospital in Delhi. The 74-year-old former India captain underwent bypass surgery at the capital’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital last month after he complained of heart problems. He later underwent an operation to remove a blood clot in his brain. According to a close friend and a former Delhi captain, Bedi has recovered and was discharged from the hospital on Thursday evening.

“He was discharged yesterday when doctors found him fit enough to go home. He has been advised complete rest,” the source told PTI.

Bedi, the leading left-arm orthodox spinner during his playing days, represented India in 67 Tests and 10 ODIs between 1967 and 1979, taking 266 and seven wickets respectively.

In December last year, he opposed the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) decision to name the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium after his late former President and former Union Minister Arun Jaitley.

Bedi had demanded that if Jaitley’s statue was to be installed, his name would be removed from the audience’s stance. He threatened to take legal action against the DDCA over the case.
