The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palika (BBMP) will recommend to the state government to close open air gyms in parks / gyms, swimming pools and party / community halls in apartments, besides reducing occupancy in theaters by 50%. This is in light of the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in the city in the last few days.
Speaking to reporters here on Friday, BBMP Commissioner N. Manjunath Prasad said that five zones – East, West, South, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli – were reporting more than 100 cases a day and compared it to Rajarajeshwarinagar, Dasarahalli and Yelahanka regions.
“In light of the increase in cases, we have already had preliminary discussions with the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary and officials of the Department of Health and Family Welfare. We would recommend closing the gym, swimming pool and party / community hall in the apartment, in addition to closing open air gyms in all BBMP parks.
Admitting that there was no data on the number of cases responsible for the closed setting of the cinema, Mr. Prasad said that the civic body would recommend bringing occupancy up to 50% with optional seats left vacant.
Similarly, a ban on the entry of 200 persons into the marriage hall with a closed atmosphere and 500 in the open air will be strictly enforced. If a violation occurs, cases will be registered under the Disaster Management Act on those who sought permission from the owners of the event and marriage hall.
Mr. Prasad also reiterated that it was the responsibility of the mall management and shop owners in the mall to ensure that citizens follow COVID-19 proper behavior (wearing masks, maintaining social distance, cleaning / washing hands). “Marshall cannot go everywhere to implement it. A random investigation will be conducted and if any violation occurs, action will be taken against the mall management and the shop owners.
Similarly, exhibitors from other states / cities are also being organized across the city along with several exhibitions. “Many people from other places are not following the proper behavior of COVID-19. We will initiate action against the organizers and hold them accountable.
