Bangladeshi man held with Indian passport

Immigration officials at Kempegowda International Airport on Thursday apprehended a 44-year-old Bangladeshi citizen with a valid Indian passport. He was living with his family in Kolkata for the last 19 years.

Accused Khokan Das went to Muscat a few years ago to work as a driver.

According to officials, Khokan told the authorities that he had illegally crossed the Bangladesh-India border and had been living in West Bengal since 2002. He then started doing strange work and managed to get ID, using which he obtained an Indian passport. He then went to Muscat a few years ago and worked as a driver for a decade.

In between, Khokhan went to Bangladesh twice – in 2014, and again in 2019 to visit his parents. This prompted immigration officials to inquire about the purpose of their visits, which eventually led to revelations about their stay in India since 2002.

Khokan has been booked under various sections of the Passport Act. He has been sent to judicial custody.
