Bajaj Auto said that the firm had to stop accepting bookings for Chetak electric scooters within 48 hours of reopening bookings in Bengaluru and Pune following heavy response.
“The booking was opened at 0900 hours and customers were able to book Chetak online on a first come, first served basis,” the company said in a statement.
“A large number of orders were required by the company to prevent customers from accepting bookings within 48 hours,” it said in a statement.
Bajaj reviewed the supply situation and announced the next round of bookings.
Rakesh Sharma of ED said that last year disruptions led by COVID resulted in a spontaneous and long waiting period, but despite this the company saw very few cancellations of bookings.
He added, “We are conscious that customers want to receive early delivery of Chetak and will start enjoying it as soon as possible, so we had to make the difficult decision to discontinue bookings in view of continued supply-chain uncertainties.”
He said that once the company resolves supply-chain issues, it will reopen bookings and introduce products to more cities within the next quarter.
