Former Australia rugby league star and San Francisco 49er Jariard Hayne was found guilty of raping a woman at his home in 2018 on Monday. Hayne – most famous outside Australia for a short-term attempt to break into the NFL – was blamed on two. Officials said counts of incest without consent in New South Wales State District Court. He was met on social media by a 26-year-old woman who attacked him at his home in Newcastle on the night of the Grand Rugby League Grand Final.

New South Wales State Police confirmed that the 33-year-old was convicted of sexual assault.

Detective superintendent Stacey Maloney praised the victim’s “courage, resilience and steely nature” during the judicial process.

Court documents show that Hayne was granted bail of $ 50,000 ($ 37,000) and will be sentenced on May 6.

Sexual harassment charges carry a maximum jail term of 14 years.

The Sydney-born star was an NRL player in 2009 and 2014, making more than 20 appearances for New South Wales in State of Origin matches.

He was capped 12 times by Australia and four times by Fiji, where his father comes from, as well as representing Fiji at the Rugby Union Sevens.

He attempted to make a career in the NFL in the 2015 season, but only experienced fleeting success during a difficult first season with the San Francisco 49ers.

He played eight times for the club, scoring 79 yards and no touchdowns.
