Taiwanese tech firm Asus said on Wednesday it was aiming to capture a 20% share of the consumer laptop market in India this year, which could capture increased online activity following the epidemic due to new offerings and high demand.
The company is also in discussions with electronics manufacturing services (EMS) providers, Arnold Sue, business head, consumer and gaming PCs, Systems Business Group, ASUS India, to evaluate the potential of manufacturing products in India.

Asus on Wednesday unveiled two new laptops with dual screens – Zenbook Duo 14 (price) 99,990 onwards) and Zenbook Pro Duo 15 OLED (price, 92,39,990). According to IDC, the company had a market share of 13.7% in the consumer laptop segment in India in 2020.
He said that the total laptop market had also increased after an epidemic of 4.4 million units in India last year, compared to 3.1 million units in 2019. This trend was likely to continue.
“Our goal is to reach 20% market share in the consumer laptop segment in 2021,” he said.
While the company was not producing in India until now, he said it is currently working closely with EMS companies to evaluate the potential of ‘products’ in India. Mr. Su said, “I believe that most of the EMS are negotiating with the Government of India.”
