Assam Assembly Election |  BJP candidate tests COVID-19 positive

He is the leader of another party after MP Topan Kumar Gogoi who has been infected for the second time.

BJP candidate Ajanta Neg has tested positive for COVID-19, a week before the first phase of polling in Assam on March 27. She is infected for the second time in seven months.

A former minister, Ms. Neg is seeking to retain the Golaghat assembly seat in eastern Assam, which she won four times as a Congress candidate in 2001. He switched to BJP in December.

Ms. Negg, who lives away from home, had been on a large scale campaign for the past few days. Local party leaders did not rule out the possibility of some of its supporters carrying the virus.

The former minister tested positive in August and underwent treatment at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).

He is the second-time BJP leader after MP Topan Kumar Gogoi to test positive.

Mr. Gogoi tested himself at a screening center at Sonari in eastern Assam during the election campaign. His report came out positive. He tested positive about a year ago and was given plasma at GMCH.

Assam registered 27 cases on Saturday and took the active cases to 303.

Since the first case was found in April 2020, 1,100 people died of infection.
