The 126-member election to the Assam Legislative Assembly will be held in three phases on March 27, April 1 and April 6.
A release issued by the CEO’s office said that a total of 27 candidates have filed nominations for 47 assembly seats in Assam.
Tuesday was the last date for submitting nominations for the first phase.
Prominent candidates who filed nominations included Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal from Majuli, BJP MLA Angurilata Deka from Batadobra, Ashok Singhal from Dhekiajuli, Mrinal Saikia from Khutai and Padma Hazarika from Saute, former ministers Ajanta Neg from Golaghat and Bismita Gogoi. . The state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) said in the release.
Other nominees to file nomination include Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami from Jorhat, AGP Minister on BJP ticket, AGP Minister Atul Bora from Bolaghat and Keshav Mahant from Kaliabor, BJP Minister Ranjit Dutta from Behli, Naba Kumar Daly from Jonai and Sanjay Kishan from Tinsukia Are included. Of saffron party from Rupalihat.
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Ripun Bora filed nominations from Gohpur, Congress Legislature Party leader Devavrata Saikia from Nazira and AICC Secretary Bhupen Bora from Bihpur.
Others to file nominations include former minister Bharat Narah from Noboicha, Pranati Phukan from Narhatia and Rakibul Hussain from Samaguri, besides MLA Roopjyoti Kurmi from Mariani, Rana Goswami from Jorhat, Roselina Tirkey from Sarupathar.
Assam Janata Parishad (AJP) President Lurinjyoti Gogoi filed his nomination from both Duliajan and Naharkatiya constituencies, while party general secretary Jagdish Bhuyan filed his nomination from Sadia.
Jailor Royal Dal leader Akhil Gogoi will also contest from Mariani and Sibsagar seats as an independent candidate in the first phase, as the party is yet to be recognized by the Election Commission.
Former AGP minister Brindaban Goswami filed his nomination as an independent candidate from Tezpur.
Scrutiny will take place on March 10 and the last date for withdrawal is March 12.
