Former Assam ministers Ajanta Neg and Bitupan Saikia are rivals again in Golaghat, but with the color of the party. As a BJP candidate in 2016, Mr. Saikia lost to East Assam constituency Ms. Negg, who is a Congress veteran, by 5,213 votes. Ms. Negg left Congress in December 2020. It is the BJP that is fielding them this time from Golaghat. So, a bitter Mr. Saikia joined the Congress, which easily offered him a seat. The only candidate to contest this seat is Reena Saikia of Assam Janata Parishad.
