Vijender Singh’s undefeated streak in professional boxing was ended by Ertish Lopson of Russia via a technical knockout at the “Battle on Ship” in Goa on Friday. The bout was fought on top of a cruise ship called the “Majestic Pride Casino Ship” and the 35-year-old Indian returned to the ring for the first time since November 2019 when he battled Charles Adamu of Ghana. Vijender, a 2008 Beijing Olympics bronze medalist, had to take a slow, full first-round warm-up to get out of the blocks. However, things gained momentum over the next two rounds and both boxers exchanged body blows. Both boxers had spread their legs in the first four rounds, with Vijender losing his balance twice in round 4. The knockout punch was landed by Lopson in the round five as the referee deemed Vijender unfit to continue and handed Lopson the bout.
