Are there any right brackets left in 2021? The best March Madness bracket tracking remains

And then there was… no one. After an incredible opening round of March Madness, there was not a single true men’s NCAA tournament bracket.

The NCAA tournament saw an absurd nine upsets by double-digit teams, plus-7 Oregon’s second-round 10-CDU VCU hit with COVID-19 issues. In addition, five teams scored more than 12 points, winning their first game, breaking the previous record (four), set in the 2008 men’s NCA tournament.

And all it took was 28 games, four games shy of the full 32 for the opening round: According to NCAAThe final straw was a 10-seed Maryland victory over the 7-seed Yukon. The Terrapins’ victory of 63-54 ended the last three brackets in the world.

The biggest stain among the millions of parentheses is upset over 2-seed Ohio State by 15-seed Verbal Roberts. The Golden Eagles’ win against the 75-72 overtime Buckeyes – the No. 6 overall team in the tournament – was the first significant setback.

But this was not the last.

On the same day, 13-seed North Texas and 12-seed Oregon State defeated 4-seed Purdue and 5-seed Tennessee, respectively, which would be perfection going forward. By the end of play on Friday, only 121 right brackets remained out of nearly 20 million. By the time Saturday ended, zero correct brackets were present.

Here is a part of how much remains after each game on Saturday:

  • After Friday: 121 perfect brackets
  • After Colorado-Georgetown: .2
  • After Florida State-UNC Greensboro: 56
  • After Kansas-Eastern Washington: 50
  • After LSU-St. Bonvent: 23
  • After Michigan-Texas Southern: 22
  • After Creighton-UC Santa Barbara: 1.
  • After Alabama-Iona: 1.
  • After USC-Drake: 12
  • No contest after Oregon-VCU: Eight
  • After Iowa-Grand Canyon: Eight
  • After Ohio-Virginia: three
  • After Maryland-Ucino: No one

The 13-seed Ohio victory over 4-seed Virginia was a significant blow to the remaining parentheses, which reduces the field by more than half (eight to three). Maryland defeated UCinoe, followed by none. So we don’t even get to count a win by 14-seed Abilene Christian in 3-seed Texas.

Whether that upset has been part of the rest of the three parentheses, we’ll never know.

According to the NCAA, the three brackets remained perfect through 27 games, but not now. Again, thanks to Maryland for this.
