Nilambur MLA PV Anwar, who has been living in Sierra Leone, West Africa for the past few months, returned to the state on Thursday in connection with a 20,000-crore business project.
Mr. Anwar, who was elected from Nilambar as an independent candidate of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 2016 election, will contest the assembly elections on April 6 from the same constituency.
Several CPI (M) cadres with party flags were at Karpoori airport since morning to receive them.
The MLA’s absence in a pole-bound state sparked various speculations, including that he was behind bars in the African nation.
However, Mr Anwar made it clear through a video post on social media a few days ago that he was in the African nation in connection with the gold diamond mining project and would return to India to contest the assembly elections.
After finding gold and diamond reserves in a 50,000-acre forest, the researchers said, “I came to Sierra Leone for a gold-diamond mining project. The project has the potential to create around 25,000 jobs, ”he said. Mr. Anwar also stated that he had a 30% stake in the project.
The ruling CPI (M) on Wednesday released its list of candidates for the assembly elections.
