Another high report in Maharashtra: 25,681 cases

Active Case Tally Nudges 1.80 Lakh Marks; 70 and more for COVID-19; 14,400 patients were discharged

In its second largest single-day case spike since the epidemic began in March, Maharashtra reported 25,681 new COVID-19 cases on Friday as its active case climbed to 1,77,560.

14,400 patients were discharged, with the state recovery rate reaching 90.42% in the last 24 hours. More than 70 deaths were recorded (43 of which were reported in the last 48 hours and the rest from earlier periods), which brought the fatal toll to 53,208.

While the total case tally has reached 24,22,021, the cumulative recovery stands at 21,85,965.

“A total of 1,80,83,977 laboratory samples have been tested so far, 24,22,021 (with an increase of 13.39% in case positivity). Over 1.27 lakh samples have been tested in the last 24 hours,” State Monitoring Officer Dr. . Pradeep Awate said that the state’s case has come down to 2.20% fatal.

The Pune district reported another staggering increase of more than 5,100 new cases to take its total case to 4,60,114. According to data from the state’s health department, six deaths were recorded at 8,167 as fatal numbers. According to district officials, the active case has now crossed the 30,000 mark, while the death toll has crossed 9,480.

With reports of the highest daily case increase in the state in Pune district, the administration has decided to restart four hitherto closed COVID-19 care centers.

Appealing to citizens not to believe in rumors of a bandh, Pune district parish chief executive Ayush Prasad said the increased spike in the district should also be seen in the context of a ramp-up sample test.

Mr. Prasad said, “At least 20,000-25,000 samples are being tested daily across the Pune district.”

The city of Mumbai also recorded a huge increase of 3,063 new cases, taking its total to 3,55,914, of which 18,850 are active. Ten fatal incidents brought the city’s death to 11,569.

Nagpur district in Vidarbha added more than 3,200 cases as it had a total of 1,89,150 cases, of which 25,861 are active. With five deaths, its fatal toll has reached 3,626.

Virus outbreaks continued in Vidarbha in Akola, Yavatmal, Buldhana and Amravati districts and an average of 500 new cases were reported each.

Amaravati recorded around 450 cases and six deaths taking its total case to 45,329, of which 3,454 are active while its death toll has risen to 595.

Akola added more than 600 cases and a single death occurred as its total cases climbed to 22,822, of which 4,507 are active while the death toll has risen to 408.

Cases in Aurangabad in Marathwada continue to increase, with more than 1,800 new cases reported, with a total number of 65,892, of which 11,524 are active. With a single death, the fatal toll reached 1,312.

Nearly 1,500 new cases were reported in Nashik, North Maharashtra, with a total of 1,45,992 cases, of which 11,867 are active, while four deaths brought the death toll to 2,112.

In western Maharashtra, 125 new cases were reported and a total of five cases were reported in Satara, out of which the total cases increased to 61,731, out of which 1,673 are active, while the death toll stands at 1,866.

Cases in Sangli and Kolhapur were relatively low, with more than 70 new cases being reported in the former and more than 50 in the latter.

Dr. Atte said that at present, there were 8,67,333 people in home quarantine and 7,848 in institutional quarantine facilities across the state.
