Android fights back against iPhone 13! Qualcomm reveals powerful upgrade coming soon

The new A15 Bionic-powered iPhone 13 might be the fastest smartphone on the planet but Android is fighting back. US tech giant Qualcomm has just revealed its new Snapdragon chip and, along with a new name, it packs plenty of performance plus advanced features to help users get more from their devices. This year, Qualcomm has ditched the usual branding with its flagship processor now called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.

This latest chip, which could feature in devices from Samsung, Sony, OnePlus, Oppo and Xiaomi, is now faster and more powerful than anything the firm has made before and will certainly help close the gap to Apple.

Qualcomm is boasting that users could see double the performance over last year’s Snapdragon 888 which will make scrolling through emails, replying to WhatsApp chats and visiting your favourite websites feel more fluid than ever.  But it’s not just about raw power with the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 also bringing a bunch of other improvements to the phones that will feature it including much quicker downloads.

Qualcomm’s latest 5G technology is capable is whizzing files and films to devices at speeds of 10Gbps – that’s over 100 times faster than the current UK average broadband.

That epic speed is all thanks to it being equipped with the 4th gen Snapdragon X65 5G Modem-RF System making the Snapdragon 8 the most advanced 5G mobile platform in the world.

There will also be a massive boost to photography with this upgrade able to help users shoot better snaps on their smartphones.

Qualcomm says that its latest technology includes the first 18-bit ISP ever created for mobile, which helps the camera capture over 4000 times more data for extreme dynamic range.

Along with adding more detail to those family snaps, it will also boost images taken at night plus the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 has the power to record stunning 8K videos.

If you love gaming on your phone then expect to see some console-style graphics on the screen with Qualcomm promising a 30% boost to performance whilst reducing the amount of power it drains from the battery.

Other improvements include better audio and much tighter security which will help to make your next phone harder to hack.

“As the world’s most advanced mobile platform, Snapdragon is synonymous with premium Android experiences and the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 sets the standard for the next generation of flagship mobile devices,” said Qualcomm’s Alex Katouzian.

“It delivers connectivity, photography, AI, gaming, sound, and security experiences never before available in a smartphone.”

The first phones to feature Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 should arrive in stores before the end of the year so watch this space.
