android: Features in iPhone 13 that you won’t get in popular Android phones - Times of India

So the dust has — somewhat — settled on the new iPhones that were unveiled by Apple a couple of days back. The dissection hasn’t begun yet but we do know what the new iPhone 13 series will offer more or less. The naysayers are out in full swing about Apple not offering anything ‘new’ but that’s kind of expected. Yet, the iPhone 13 series has features that Android phones can’t boast. Here are some of them:
The one feature that will please mobile ‘filmmakers’
Every year Apple gets a feature in the iPhone camera that makes people sit up and take notice. This year it will be the Cinematic mode. During the keynote, Apple demoed it and it looked really cool. Cinematic mode is — to put it very simplistically — a portrait mode for videos. Using this mode, one can automatically focus on specific subjects. You can blur someone out completely in the background or make someone look clear in the foreground. You won’t find this feature in any popular Android phone. What’s more, it won’t be restricted to the Pro phones as it’s available across the iPhone 13 series.
Double the storage in the ‘base’ variant
Now you might think that what’s the big deal in this as popular Android phones — OnePlus 9 Pro namely — offers 128GB variant as the entry point. But what Apple did is it didn’t hike the price and has this storage across the series. So for the same price as the iPhone 12, you end up getting double the storage for the same amount. For a company that often gets brickbats for overpricing products, Apple has taken the road less travelled in 2021.
A faster processor than most smartphones
Again, it’s not anything ‘new’ but it actually is. We have come to expect the iPhone processor to be blazing fast and Apple improves it every year. With the iPhone 13 series, you get the A15 Bionic processor that — as per benchmark tests — is way faster than the popular Android phones.
Another camera feature for video professionals
Like Cinematic mode, another addition to the video camera capabilities would be ProRes. Meant for professionals, the ProRes codec actually offers less compression and high colour fidelity. It is reportedly used for shooting TV ads, and even movies. The ProRes feature, however, will be available in iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
