Ambani security under investigation: NIA seizes Innova car

The National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the recovery of a vehicle loaded with explosives outside the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani in Mumbai, seized a white Innova car on Sunday.

It is not clear whether this was the same Innova that was set up near Ambani’s residence in South Mumbai on 25 February.

According to the police officer, the Innova, written on the registration number ‘MH01ZA403’ of Terdev RTO and the windshield behind the ‘police’, was brought to the NIA office at Pedder Road here with the help of a tendering van. The arrest of Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze in connection with the case.

The NIA arrested Wedge late Saturday after questioning for 12 hours over the recovery of the explosives-laden Scorpio near Ambani’s residence.

On February 25, a Scorpio parked near Ambani’s house on Carmichael Road contained some gelatin sticks and a threatening letter.

“Encounter Specialist” Vaze is also facing heat in the case of the murder of Mansukh Hiran, a Thane-based businessman who was in possession of the Scorpio. Deer was found dead on 5 March in a rivulet in Thane district.

Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is investigating the deer murder case. It lodged an FIR against unknown persons a few days after the deer was found dead.

Waze, accused of involvement in the suspicious death of her husband by Heeran’s wife, was kicked out of the Mumbai Crime Branch a few days ago.

NIA taking money for SUV case to topple Mumbai police: Raut

Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Sunday alleged that the NIA probing the recovery of an explosive-laden SUV near the residence of industrialist Mukesh Ambani caused morale of the Mumbai Police and created instability in Maharashtra.

Speaking to reporters here, Mr. Raut said that Mumbai Police officer Sachin Vej, arrested late on Saturday by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), is an “honest, successful officer and a good investigator”.

The Rajya Sabha member said, “The reputation of the state government is at stake in this matter.”
