Ecommerce giant Amazon hired former executive Adam Selips at the company to lead its cloud computing business, Amazon Web Services (AWS).

Amazon’s next cloud computing major was one of the first vice presidents to work at AWS, and ran the sales, marketing and support of AWS for 11 years. Selisky will take on the role of Andy Jessie, the current head of AWS, who will assume the responsibility of Amazon’s CEO.

Selips has already known the culture and business of the company well, through his prior relationship with AWS, Jessie noted in a release. “Adam brings strong judgment, customer passion, team building, demand generation, and CEO experience to an already very strong AWS leadership team,” he said.

Selipski became the CEO of Tableau in 2016, and ran the firm for the past 4.5 years. During his time as chief, the tableau’s value quadrupled in just a few years, and the company was eventually acquired by Salesforce in 2019 in one of the largest software acquisitions in history, Amazon said.

Celipsky will return to AWS on May 17, and will spend several weeks following the transition together with Jesse before making changes sometime in the third quarter of this year. Amazon founder and current CEO Jeff Bezos will transition to the role of executive chairman.
