Amazon may be working on a wearable meant for kids - Times of India

Amazon is one of the biggest tech companies in the world. Yet, when it comes to hardware, Amazon hasn’t made that big a push as expected. In the last couple of years, it has made an attempt to change that by getting in wearables and hearables. Now, a report by Bloomberg suggests that Amazon may soon be launching a smartwatch.
According to Bloomberg, the smartwatch will be targeted towards kids aged between 4-12 years. The watch has been codenamed seeker and the report says it “could take the form of a wristband, keychain or clip”.
Further, the Alexa-enabled wearable would give access to children focused content on Amazon platforms. The device could also allow parents to communicate and monitor their children.
The report says that Amazon was considering to price the wearable device at $99. Amazon has been toying with the idea of releasing the device for the last few years, as per the report.
How Amazon is looking to compete with Apple Watch
When Apple released watchOS 7 in 2020, it had a Family Setup feature for the Watch. The feature allows parents to set up and manage Apple Watch for their children. With the Alexa-powered wearable which Amazon is working on, it looks like this is the market it is targeting. Even Fitbit Ace 3 has a feature that allows parents to keep a track of their children.
Amazon was also working with Disney to create a new Magic Band wearable gadget. Interestingly, earlier this yearApple had partnered with Disney to come up with iPhone and Apple Watch accessories.
This wouldn’t be the first time Amazon has made — or considered making — devices that are aimed at kids. Since 2018, it has launched an Echo Dot speaker Kids Edition.
