Amazon launches Spotlight North East storefront - Times of India

Amazon has launched Spotlight North East storefront on its platform. The north-east region of India is popular for its unique GI products. The store will help showcase these local products to Amazon customers across the country.
Amazon users will be able to purchase products like Chakshesang shawls from Nagaland, Muga Silk from Assam, different types of weaves like the Moirang Phee from Manipur, varieties of teas and spices like the Mizo Chilli and more.
Spotlight North East programme was first announced by Amazon during the Sambhav event in April. The programme is designed to boost the local economy, create jobs and accelerate financial inclusion and empowerment of women across the region.
It seeks to benefit over 50,000 weavers, artisans and small businesses by 2025 by facilitating access to technology and markets.
“The initiative will accelerate digitisation in the region and provide an opportunity for local businesses to leverage e-commerce, helping North East India leapfrog into a robust economy and increasing its share in the country’s digital economy,” the company said.
As part of the programme, Amazon has partnered with North Eastern Handlooms and Handicrafts Development Corporation (NEHHDC). It will engage, skill and digitally enable artisan and weaver communities in the 8 states across the region. The artisans will also be benefited under the Amazon Karigar program.
The e-commerce company will also host training workshops to enable Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the region. These workshops will include ideation sessions with leading designers from India on emerging trends to support artisans and weavers.
