Alstom has secured a contract with the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of 234 metro cars, including the Personnel Training and Extension Corridor (Wadala-Kasarawardavali-Gimukh) for Line 4. The order is valued at € 220 million (is 1,854 crore).
The company said in a statement that new products have been added to Alstom’s portfolio as part of its acquisition of Bombardier Transportation (BT) on January 29, 2021.
“This is an exciting time and this first order, following our merger with Bombardier Transportation, reflects our continued commitment to participation in the country’s Make-in-India mission,” said Ling Fung, region president of Alstom Asia Pacific.
“We have been awarded this prestigious project by MMRDA and look forward to starting work on it. Alstom is proud to play a role in strengthening the country’s infrastructure and providing world-class mobility solutions to India’s commercial capital, ”he said..
The line is a 35.3 km long elevated corridor with 32 stations.
It will provide interconnectivity between the existing Eastern Express Roadway, Mono Rail, the ongoing Metro Line 2B (DN Nagar – Mandalay), and the proposed Metro Line 5 (Thane – Kalyan), Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar – Vikhroli).
The Mumbai metro lines 4 and 4A are expected to reduce the current travel time by 50% to 75% depending on the road conditions.
