In a major push for affordable 5G-enabled smartphones, Realme CEO Madhav Sheth has announced that all smartphones that the brand will launch above the price range of Rs 15,000 will come with support for 5G connectivity. There is no confirmed timeline from telcos and the government as to when India will get 5G connectivity, having said that, handsets with 5G support will help buyers become future-proof.
As per a latest market report by Ericsson, four in five smartphone users are interested in acquiring a 5G handset during 2021. With Realme announcing more affordable 5G handsets, it is expected that its competitors like Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Samsung and others too will launch 5G handsets at affordable prices, thus bringing down the entry price of 5G handsets and giving more choice to buyers.
Realme CEO also announced that Realme will be launching the 5G-enabled Realme GT smartphone in this quarter with “multiple GT products” and will also expand the Narzo series of smartphones with more 5G-enabled models.
Meanwhile, Realme is also entering the laptop market globally with the launch of RealmeBook. It also announced that the RealmeBook will be eligible to get an upgrade to Windows 11 operating system, making it one of the early OEMs to offer support for the latest Windows OS. Realme is venturing into the tablet space with its RealmePad. Both the RealmeBook and RealmePad should make their way to the Indian market too and details about their launch are awaited.
