All England Open: PV Sindhu defeated Malaysian Sonia Chi in the second round

Ace India’s shuttler PV Sindhu reached the second round of the All England Open after a win over Malaysia’s Sonia Chia on Wednesday. Sindhu overcame the first round challenge as she won the clash 21-11 21-17 in 39 minutes. All the world’s number seven cannons came out blazing and carried out the encounter in an attacking manner. Sindhu did not give her opponent any chance to take the lead and easily won the first game. However, the Malaysian tried to make a comeback in the second game, but Sindhu was not in the mood to take the match in the third game and maintained the lead despite a fight with Chiha.

Earlier, the Indian men’s doubles pair of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy reached the second round of the All England Open.

The Indian pair defeated the inexperienced duo of England’s Nikhar Garg and Anirudh Mayaker of India 21-7 21-10 in just 19 minutes. It was an easy struggle for Shetty and Rankireddy which would boost their morale in the competition.

The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy also advanced to the next round defeating Beniapa Amsard and Nuntakaran Amsard of Thailand in straight games.

The Indian pair bowled him out and clashed 21–14, 21–12 in just 30 minutes.

India’s shuttlers Kidambi Srikanth and Parupalli Kashyap pulled out of the competition after losing their first round matches.

Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen defeated Srikanth 21-11, 15-21, 21-12 in the first round, while world number one Kento Momota beat Kashyap in straight games 21-13, 22-20 in another game. Defeated in first round match.

Earlier in the day, Indian shuttlers were cleared to participate in the All England Open Badminton Championships 2021, after players tested negative for coronovirus.

India’s badminton coach Mathias Boe confirmed on his Instagram Story that there were no positive tests in the Indian squad and the shutters were ready to take the field on Wednesday.

Badminton Association of India (BAI) secretary Ajay Singhania confirmed that three Indian shuttlers and one member of the support staff had tested positive for coronovirus before the tournament.
