Indian shuttlers have been cleared to participate in the All England Open Badminton Championship 2021 after players returned a negative test for coronovirus on Wednesday. India’s badminton coach Mathias Boe confirmed on his Instagram Story that there were no positive tests within the Indian squad and the shutters were ready to take the field on Wednesday. Matthias wrote in his Instagram story, “No positive test in the team. We are ready for All England.” Badminton Association of India (BAI) secretary Ajay Singhania confirmed that three Indian shuttlers and one member of the support staff had tested positive for coronovirus before the tournament.
Singhania told ANI, “Three players and a support staff tested COVID-19 positive. I am in contact with the team and the Badminton World Federation (BWF).
But his positive results may come as he previously contracted the virus.
The start of the All England Open Badminton Championship was delayed after several COVID-19 tests were considered “inconclusive”. The play will begin at 2 pm GMT on Wednesday and will be pushed back five hours.
On Tuesday, India’s shuttler Saina Nehwal said she was still awaiting her COVID-19 test report, as the All England Open was scheduled to begin on Wednesday.
