According to party leaders, All India Congress Committee (AlCC) former Chief Minister V.V. Narayanasamy was keen to field in the Union Territory Assembly elections, though the decision of not contesting the election was the personal choice of the veteran Congress leader.
He said, “The morale of the cadre had come down after the resignation issue and also that we had got fewer seats during the seat sharing talks with the DMK. We wanted him and all our top leaders to contest elections to excite our cadre, ”the AICC leader said Hindu.
The former chief minister will lead the campaign, saying that we cannot force a senior leader like him. But as he is a committed leader, he will campaign from the front. We respect his decision. “
The AICC member said that the decision to field PCC chief AV Subramanian was taken for the purpose of sending a message to the cadre that the party was a serious contender despite all the lapses and disturbances in the seat-sharing talks.
When contacted by the Chief Minister, he said that he would give a detailed statement soon.
