After the Cardinals stand, Nicolas Castellanos, the Red Bench becomes empty, shouting at the pitcher

The Cardinals and Reds engaged in the first bench-clearing event of the 2021 MLB season on Saturday at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati. Reds outfielder Nicolas Castellanos was at the center of it.

Castellanos stood over pitcher Jake Woodford in home plate and shouted at him after scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth inning. Castellanos was still upset that Woodford beat him off the pitch in the first inning.

Woodford and catcher Yadir Molina fielded Javed at Castellanos. No holes were visible on the TV feed.

The flapup was followed by a few minutes in the outfield as the bulls moved back to their respective spots. Cardinals reliever Jordan Hicks and Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez were among the principals. Again, no punch was seen.

Castellanos was the only person expelled.

The St. Louis-Cincinnati dislike stretches back more than a decade. In 2010, a real dispute between the teams also took place in Cincinnati. Molina was at the center of that one.
