Hashmatullah Shahidi of Afghanistan became the first batsman in the country to score a double century in Test cricket. Shahidi scored his first double century on day two of the second Test against Zimbabwe in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. Shahid made an unbeaten 200 off 443 balls with 21 fours and Afghanistan scored 545 for 4 wickets in their first innings. Captain Asghar Afghan scored 164 runs while opener Ibrahim Jadaran scored 72 runs. Zimbabwe led the two-match series 1-0.

Shahid has played five Tests and 42 ODIs for Afghanistan since his debut in international cricket in an ODI against Kenya.

He made his Test debut in Afghanistan’s first Test against India in Bengaluru in 2018.

The 26-year-old left-hander scored 347 runs in five Tests and 1155 runs from 42 ODIs.

In the second Test, Zimbabwe completed 50 runs at stumps on Day 2 with no loss.

Earlier, it was a difficult route to play for Zimbabwean bowlers, who ran for almost two days in the ground for four wickets.

Afghan and Shahidi shared a 307-run partnership to overthrow Zimbabwean bowlers for the fourth wicket and put Afghanistan in a position of strength.

The captain, Afghanistan is now the highest scoring player for Afghanistan in their Test history, scoring 440 out of 44 in six Tests.

Shahid comes second with his talent of 347, followed by Jadaran who scored 327 runs in four Tests.

Zimbabwe defeated Afghanistan by 10 wickets in the first Test which was also played in Abu Dhabi.
