‘Additional Central Paramilitary Forces to Reach Before Voting’

City Police Commissioner Mahesh Kumar Aggarwal said on Friday that additional companies of central paramilitary forces would be deployed in sensitive areas before the election.

Mr. Aggarwal visited several places in the city and oversaw the preparation of the ballot and the bandbust arrangements. The Additional Commissioner of Police was with him.

Later, while talking to media persons, he said that as per the instructions of the Election Commission (ECI), preparations for the elections were going on in the city.

Apart from flying squad and static surveillance teams, police personnel are also checking on vehicles and lodges. Since the day of the election announcement, ₹ 6.8 crore in cash and 30 kg of gold worth ₹ 15 crore have been seized, he said.

Mr. Aggarwal also said that the police have formed special teams to execute the pending Non-Bailable Warrant (NBW). He said 1,540 NBWs were executed in the last three weeks and 448 were still pending. About 1,751 antisocial elements were bound under Section 110 of the CrPC. If they are found to be in violation of the terms of the security bond, there are provisions to imprison them. So far 1,796 licensed firearms have been handed over to the police and 966 licensees have been exempted.

Mr. Aggarwal said, “Two Central Paramilitary Companies of the Border Security Force are stationed here and carry out daily flag marches with police personnel in sensitive areas. So far flag marches have been carried out in 46 areas. We have asked for additional reinforcements. He is likely to come before the election. In sensitive and critical areas, paramilitary forces and Tamil Nadu Special Police personnel will be deployed. “
