AAP ministers, MPs, MLAs protested at Jantar-Mantar against bill on LG powers

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to lead the protest as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) plans to strongly oppose the move of the central government.

Delhi ministers and AAP MPs, MLAs and councilors will protest at New Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Wednesday and protest against the Centre’s bill handing over power to the Lieutenant Governor.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is likely to lead the protest as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) plans to strongly oppose the move of the central government.

Development Minister Gopal Rai said, “All cabinet ministers, MLAs, Aam Aadmi Party MPs and councilors of Delhi will participate in the protests.” PTI.

The bill introduced by the central government in the Lok Sabha on Monday is “unconstitutional”.

Mr. Kejriwal has accused the BJP of “undermining” the powers of the elected government through this bill.

According to the National Capital Territory of Delhi Government (Amendment) Bill, 2021, “Government” in the city shall mean “Lieutenant Governor” in the context of any law made by the Legislative Assembly.

The bill introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Minister of State for Home Kishan Reddy makes it mandatory for the Delhi government to seek the opinion of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) before taking any executive action in the national capital.

On Monday, Deputy Chief Manish Sisodia alleged that the bill would stop Delhi’s progress by giving LG undue powers.
