A year passed before the first COVID-19 case was confirmed and the SPSR was reported in the Nellore district on March 12 last year in the state.
Little did people and officials know that the state was witness to the rapid spread of the disease that in August there were more than 10,000 cases and more than 100 deaths in a single day.
From the sixth month (12 August to 11 September) the epidemic curve occurred in the form of 3.03 lakh infections, 2,576 deaths and continued even after that. There were only 2,486 infections in the last month.
Only in some districts
Meanwhile, although the lowest single-day tally of 30 infections in the past several months was reported almost a month ago, the daily tally began to see a spike since then. In the past two weeks, an average of 113 new infections were recorded per day and 174 new infections in the last 24 hours, the most single-day in the last 50 days, indicating a spike in infection incidence. The number of active cases almost doubled in the last two weeks.
However, the rapid spread of the disease can be seen only in a few districts, including Chittoor, Krishna, Visakhapatnam, Guntur and East Godavari, accounting for 69% of the total infections in the last two weeks.
Chittoor alone recorded 469 infections in two weeks, while Krishna recorded 191, Visakhapatnam 179, Guntur 144 and East Godavari 116 cases.
Overall tally increases to 8,91,178 And the toll reached 7,179 in the 24 hours ending Thursday morning, with 174 new cases and two new deaths. The number of active cases and recoveries also increased to 1,158 and 8,82,841. Respectively. Last day, 47,803 samples were tested and so far 1.44 crore samples have been tested.
There were sixty cases of new cases in Chittoor district, which also led to two deaths. This was followed by Krishna (26), Visakhapatnam (23), Guntur (12), East Godavari (11), Kurnool (8), Srikakulam (7), Prakasam (7), Anantapur (6), West Godavari (6), Kadapa (5) and Nellore (3). Vizianagaram did not mention any new cases.
The height of the district was as follows: East Godavari (1,24,542), West Godavari (94,372), Chittoor (87,855), Guntur (75,830), Anantapur (67,829), Nellore (62,525), Prakasam (62,229), Kurnool (60,943) , Visakhapatnam (60,182), Kadapa (55,443), Krishna (49,082), Srikakulam (46,279) and Vizianagaram 41,172).
Chittoor has the highest death rate of 856 and Krishna has the highest death rate of 1.39%.
