Britain’s Dillian White avenged his loss as WBC interim heavyweight champion to ABC Alexander Povetkin on Saturday and immediately set his sights on becoming undisputed world champion. In front of 500 fans in Gibraltar, the 32-year-old White outscored his Russian rival in the fourth round. Last August, Whyte twice placed the 41-year-old Povetkin on the canvas, only to see the former WBA champion beat him to a fifth-round knockout.
White said on the eve of Saturday’s fight that the win should give him a shot at facing the winner of a future bout between Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury with the undisputed heavyweight title on the line.
White told Sky Sports, “I’m sad that I didn’t finish it in the first round. He’s a tough guy but I figured I could finish it quickly.”
