Orleans Masters: Saina Nehwal enters quarter-finals

India’s shuttler Saina Nehwal made it to the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters on Thursday. Saina won the second round match 18–21, 21–15, 21–10 over France’s Marie Bautomain, which lasted for about 51 minutes. Saina trailed 18-21 in the opening game, but made a stunning comeback in the next two games to advance to the Super 100 event, which is also part of the Badminton World Federation (BWF) ‘s revised Olympic qualification period. Saina’s game continued to improve as the match progressed and she brought her ‘A’ game in the third and deciding game.

Ira Sharma of India defeated Maria Mitsova of Bulgaria 21-18 21-13 in the second round to enter the quarter-finals, which lasted for about 32 minutes.

Saina and Kidambi Srikanth got off to a winning start at the Orleans Masters on Wednesday.

Saina went on to win 21–9, 21–5 over Rachel Daragah of Ireland as a whole. Srikanth, on the other hand, beat compatriot Ajay Jayaram 21-15 21-10 to enter the third round.

The Indian mixed doubles pair of Pranav Jerry Chopra and N Sikki Reddy also made a winning start by defeating Dominic Stipsitz and Serena Au Yong 21–7 21–18 of Austria.

However, Parupalli Kashyap bowed out of the tournament after losing 7-21 17-21 to France’s Tama Junior Popov. Simultaneously, Kiran George defeated HS Prannoy 13-21, 21-16, 23-21.

In the women’s doubles, Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy entered the next round by winning 21–9, 17–21, 21–19 over Amli Magelland and Frezza Revan.
