Railway Zone Sadhana Samiti convenor JV Satyanarayana Murthy has condemned the alleged statement of Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in Parliament that Voltaire Division will soon be a thing of the past.
In a statement here on Sunday, Mr. Murthy reminded that the BJP government had announced the South Coast Railway Zone (S Sahr) with headquarters in Visakhapatnam just before the general elections in 2019. He warned that the BJP would have to pay a heavy price if it went ahead with its decision to do away with the Voltaire division altogether. Apart from the demand for new field works to be started soon, a fresh movement will be started to maintain the Voltaire Division.
He said that the Officer on Special Duty (OSD) of S Co R had submitted a detailed project report (DPR) to the Railway Board stating that 175 175 crore would be required for the new area. But in the last budget, only Rs 3 crore was allocated to Co R, thereby cheating the people of the state.
The CPI (M) State Assistant Secretary also demanded that the state government convene an all-party meeting to pressurize the Center to maintain the Voltaire Division and expedite the operation of the new area.
