UT likely to hit fever pitch soon

The campaigning for the Assembly elections, to be held on 6 April, is set to hit a fever pitch in the coming days.

The BJP has hosted star campaigners led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who are scheduled to visit on 30 March.

Mr. Modi is scheduled to address a public meeting at the Anglo-French Textiles Ground at 5 pm. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari will be in the city on Monday to lead the road show in support of NDA candidates, while Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will release the party’s manifesto during her visit on March 24.

The Congress-led Secular Democratic Progressive Alliance will start its campaign in Kalapet at 5 pm on Monday.

Apart from top Congress presidents Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, senior leaders of Congress, Tamil Nadu, DMK, VCK and Left parties will also join the election.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, actor Gautami reached the city after the election in Karaikal to campaign for BJP candidates in Kamaraj Nagar and Lospet.

During rallies in various places, Ms. Gautami urged voters to choose the NDA to ensure a golden era of development and prosperity.
