Team India has been fined 40 per cent of the match fees for maintaining a slow over-pace in the fifth and final Twenty20 International (T20I) against England in Ahmedabad on Saturday. After taking time allowance, India got two overs less than the target. The International Cricket Council (ICC) said in a media statement on Sunday that India’s captain Virat Kohli pleaded guilty to the crime and therefore no formal hearing was required.

“India have been fined 40 per cent of their match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate against England in the fifth T20I at Ahmedabad on Saturday. Approved. The statement stated that the time was two overs short of the target, keeping in mind the time allowances.

“Kohli pleaded guilty to the crime and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing.”

In the final T20I, India scored 224 runs thanks to the fifties of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

In response, England could only manage 188 runs for 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs and lost the match by 36 runs.

The two teams will now face each other in a three-match one-day international series to be held in Pune.
