The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Railways and Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) to finalize and approve the parameters of locomotive engines.
‘Make the final as soon as possible’
The bench headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, while noting a report filed by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF and CC), said: “As the issue has been pending for three years, we direct that the same Stay was finalized as soon as possible. “
The Ministry of Environment stated in its report on 4 February that the draft standard was submitted by the CPCB on 2 June 2020. The directive came as the green panel was hearing a petition by petitioner SK Goel seeking to implement the NGT’s 2017 order directing that the guidelines containing locomotive standards be put on the CPCB website and all Early efforts should be made for stakeholders, including MoEF and CC
