NDA candidate’s nomination rejected in Thalassery

Thalassery n. The nomination of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate in Haridas was rejected on Saturday.

The Thalassery RDO rejected the nomination citing Form (A) submitted by Mr. Haridas, who is also the BJP Kannur district president, did not bear the signature of the party’s national president JP Nadda.

Mr. Haridas told the media that he had filed his nomination at 12 noon on Friday. But when the issue was brought to his attention, he obtained the signed document online and presented it with an affidavit at 3 pm but the officer refused to accept him.

“I will knock the door of the Supreme Court with the documents, and we are hopeful of a favorable order,” he said.

Meanwhile, the RDO confirmed that Mr. Haridas has not submitted Form A in time and required format.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah is expected to campaign for the BJP candidate in the constituency on 25 May. However, with the rejection of the nomination, there are indications that the party may cancel the program.

The rejection of nomination triggered a political upheaval in the constituency where the BJP has a substantial vote share.

In the last assembly election, party candidate VK Sajeevan garnered 22,125 votes.
