A straight fight on the card in Angamaly

MLA Rosie M. John takes on former legislator Jose Thietayil

An uphill battle between the two contenders seems to be emerging in the Angamaly assembly constituency.

Congress elected sitting MLA Rosie M. John has been fielded to maintain his hold in the region, while the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is banking on Jose Thettayil of the Janata Dal (Secular) to take it off. Mr John terminated two consecutive terms of Mr Thetil in 2016, as the latter had to stay out of the electoral landscape after a sexual harassment case against him.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) camp has claimed that its candidate will go on the final lap. “We are requesting voters to help ensure the UDF rules in the next five years. Despite representing the MLA Opposition Bench, I was able to play a significant role in the development of the constituency in the last five years, ”said Mr. John, who defeated JD (S)’ s Benny Moonjeli by 9184 votes. 2016 election.

Mr. Thetil alleged that the incumbent MLAs had failed to execute various developmental projects despite the allocation of funds by the LDF government. “Angamali bypass project and Kaldi bridge are some of the pending projects even after allocation of sufficient funds. Voters are aware of multi-crore infrastructure projects and other welfare initiatives during my tenure, ”he said.

The Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) fielded KV Sabu to increase its vote share in the constituency. It has elected a member of the Jacobite community hoping that they may get a share of the votes. However, rival fronts reminded that this could not work, as the Jacobite faction announced an “equality” policy in the election.

“We hope to improve our performance, especially after the performance in the local body elections. The party had won two seats in the municipality, besides winning seats in Thuravoor, Parakkadavu and Kaladi panchayats, ”said Mr. Sabu.
