Dakshina Kannada district administration has reopened the RT-PCR test facility at Talpadi checkpost on National Highway 66 to enable regular passengers between Kerala and Karnataka to undergo COVID-19 testing.
Around 300 individuals are being tested on checkposts daily since Thursday, although officials are not insisting on the production of RT-PCR negative certificates. Rakshit, who hails from Uppala in Kerala, who works in a civil engineering firm in Mangaluru, was among those who made themselves appear in the examination on Saturday. “Although the investigation is not being done yet, I do not want to take a nap because the investigation can resume any day.” Therefore, I am subjecting myself to trial, ”he said.
Mr Rakshit subjected himself to RT-PCR testing in February at the checkpost. “Checking was stopped before I could get results,” he said.
Among others who came under RT-PCR test on Saturday was conductor James, a private bus operator from Kerala, on an internal route between Manjeshwar to Talapadi and Kasargod. “Yesterday, the officials at the checkpost asked us to carry the COVID-19 negative certificate. As it is convenient and free, I am subjecting myself to the test in this checkpost. “
Another resident of Uppala, Zakir, who is going by road to Bengaluru on Saturday, also subjected himself to a trial. Several motorists were seen voluntarily stopping and testing at the testing center.

The health department has deployed four persons each for morning and evening shifts at the testing center. While three individuals register, a technician collects swelling of the nose and throat. At the end of the day, the samples are taken to the Government Wenlock Hospital for testing.
Three homeguards have been deployed every Friday for morning, evening and night shifts to check for COVID-19 negative certificates. “Yesterday, we asked regular travelers to carry certificates from Saturday. When we started examining the certificates from Saturday, there was a heated exchange of words with some motorists. Then we were asked to stop. We are awaiting further instructions, ”said a home guard.
