Personnel from Koambedu police station on Thursday arrested three people, including a person from Tripura, for possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling them.
Following an information that the hemp is being sold to college students in Neerkundaram and Koyambedu, the police monitored and searched. They suspiciously caught a man driving around the locals. On searching his vehicle, the police found 1 kg of hemp. He was identified as 24-year-old Jamal of Tripura.
After questioning him, the police recovered another 4 kg of hemp from his residence. The police also arrested Morina, a 45-year-old woman and 23-year-old Nizamuddin from Tripura. The three were sent to judicial custody from their home state for trafficking crime and selling in the city.
Meanwhile, personnel at the Taramani police station arrested three accused who stocked ganja in a house and recovered 5 kg of contraband from them.
