SUV Case |  NIA crime scene with Sachin Veg near Ambani’s house ‘Antilia’

A police officer said the scene was recreated late on Friday, with Sachin Veg being asked to walk for a while wearing a white kurta.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) suspended Mumbai police officer Sachin Waze, where the explosive-laden Scorpio was found near industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in Mumbai last month, and reconstructed the crime scene as part of the investigation into the case. He said the scene was recreated late Friday, with Wedge being asked to walk there for some time wearing a white kurta.

Authorities previously said that the NIA suspected that the man wearing the kurta, who was captured on the CCTV footage – Carmichael Road – recorded on the day of the incident, was however being confirmed.

“On Friday night, several NIA officials reached the spot where the SUV was found near Ambani’s house. The official said the road was blocked for some time and the crime scene was rebuilt as part of the investigation.

He said that Wedge and investigators were present on the spot for more than 30 minutes.

“During the crime scene, the suspended assistant police inspector (Waze) was asked to wear a white kurta for some time,” he said.

The official said that the entire process of reconstruction of the crime scene was video-recorded, adding that the local police was also deployed at the scene.

Scorpio was parked near Ambani’s multi-storey residence ‘Antilia’ with gelatin sticks and a threatening letter on 25 February. Wedge was arrested by the NIA in connection with the case last Saturday. He was later suspended.

Waze, an “encounter specialist”, is also facing heat in the murder of Mansukh buck, a Thane-based businessman who was in possession of the SUV. The deer was found dead in a rivulet on March 5. The Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) is investigating the case.

The NIA has so far interrogated several officers of the crime intelligence unit of the city police, who were attached to the wedge, and seized a total of five high-end vehicles, including two Mercedes cars. Wedge has been taken on remand in NIA custody till 25 March.
