The High Court of Karnataka on Friday ordered to issue notice on a petition filed by Mumbai actor Kangana Ranaut to post a tweet challenging a First Information Report (FIR) registered against her in Tumkuru. In which there was a protest against the agricultural laws.

Justice HP Sandesh, before whom the petition came, adjourned the next hearing till 25 March.

The case was issued on the basis of a lawsuit by the Kathsandra police, a Tumkuru-based advocate Ramesh Naik. The HC asked Ms. Ranaut’s counsel to provide a copy of the petition to the complainant, who wanted to be a party to the proceedings. On the plea of ​​the advocate for interim protection in the form of a warrant, the High Court said that it would consider the petition on the next date of hearing.

Ms Ranaut tweeted: “People who spread misinformation and rumors about CAA [Citizenship Amendment Act] Because of the riots, the same people who are now spreading misinformation about the farmer’s bill and creating terror in the nation, they are terrorists. You know exactly what I said but like to spread misinformation. “

The complaint alleged that the tweet had the effect of disturbing peace in society by portraying protesters against agricultural laws as ‘terrorists’.

He was lodged under section 153 (for inciting with the intention of inciting a riot); 153A (to promote enmity between different groups on the basis of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony) and 504 (intentional insults intended to breach peace) .
