Pollution levels in Delhi are lower than in previous years due to the steps taken by the Center, but “some people of Delhi” were taking credit without doing anything, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Friday, taking a sarcasm at the AAP government.
In response to a question by BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy on the Delhi air being classified as “dangerous” by a Swiss institution in the Lok Sabha, the minister admitted that air pollution is the “most serious problem”.
‘Center to address issue’
The minister also acknowledged that air quality along the Indo-Gangetic belt is poor, but the Center has taken several steps including a National Clean Air Program (NCAP) to address the issue of air pollution in 100 cities.
In a list of other measures, he said that the Badarpur power plant has been closed, Eastern and Western Express peripheral modes were built to divert around 50,000 trucks that pass through Delhi, piped natural to 3,000 industries in Delhi. Used to provide gas (PNG). Zig-zag technology or another 3,000 brick kilns are used to bring down pollution levels.
Mr. Javadekar also spoke about improved emission standards by using BS6 technology for vehicles and introducing electric vehicles.
“A new report says that pollution levels in Delhi are lower than in previous years,” Mr. Javadekar said, “There are some people in Delhi who have no contribution in this [bringing down pollution levels], But running for credit and advertising in newspapers claiming pollution ”.
A Swiss organization, IQAir, in its recent ‘World Air Quality Report, 2020’ states that 22 of the world’s 30 most polluted cities are in India, with Delhi being rated the most polluted capital globally. But the report also said that Delhi’s air quality has improved by 15% between 2019 and 2020.
