DMK President MK Stalin on Friday alleged that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami pledged Tamil Nadu rights over Cauvery with the Ministry of Water Power.
Addressing an election rally in Oratnadu, where he campaigned for candidates fielded by the party and its allies in eight assembly constituencies in Thanjavur district, he established the state’s authority over the waters of the Cauvery river, the late Chief Minister M.K. Listed Karunanidhi’s efforts. over the decades.
The chief minister blamed Karunanidhi for the problems of sharing of Cauvery water between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Strongly criticizing Mr. Palaniswami for attempting to tarnish Karunanidhi’s image on the issue, Mr. Stalin said that it was the current Chief Minister who pledged the state’s authority over Cauvery waters with the Ministry of Water Power.
The DMK leader said that Mr. Palaniswami never bothered to take action or listen to the contention of opposition parties and called for the Karnataka government’s proposal to build a dam across the river at Meketu to protect the interests of the state.
He said, ‘We urged him to call an all-party meeting and arrange a meeting with the Prime Minister on this issue, but he kept quiet. Being so, Mr. Palaniswami is trying to present former Chief Minister Karunanidhi in a bad light, which should keep him away, ”said Mr. Stalin.
‘Farmer’ comment
Taking a sarcasm at the chief minister’s claim to be a farmer, Mr. Stalin said that he was a genuine farmer, he should have opposed the three controversial agricultural laws enforced by the central government. But the Chief Minister accepted the agitating farmers in New Delhi as “middlemen”.
He assured voters that a new district would be created along with Kumbakonam as the DMK is in power and Thiruvonam would be made a separate taluk. Mr. Stalin concluded his speech by calling on people to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
