Every year hundreds of devotees meet in Tiruppurkundam assembly constituency. Although there are major public infrastructure in this constituency such as the proposed All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), IT Park at Vadapalanji and Madurai Airport, there are many shortcomings in the functioning of these facilities.

Rural constituencies including Nagamalai Pudukottai, Vadapalanji, Valayapatti, Kombadi and Thoppur fall under this constituency.
The delay in the start of construction of AIIMS in Thoppur is one of the main issues, which has been repeatedly exposed. Although it has been more than two years since the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone, much progress has not been made. “Why is the state government showing a stoic attitude towards the establishment of AIIMS? “Leaders who are contesting elections should be committed to the electorate that they will definitely ensure that Madurai airport is declared an international airport,” he says. ”
Lack of parking facility and adequate number of toilets around Subramanyaswamy Temple in Tiruppuranakundam is another major issue here.
B Muthu Algesan, who lives near the temple, says that during festivals and ‘Muhurta’ days, the entire Tiruppurkundam area gets congested due to no parking facilities. Sarawana Poigai, the pond of the Subramanyaswamy temple, is severely contaminated. Its rejuvenation is another requirement.
Farmers from the pocket where ‘Madura Malli’ is cultivated establish a fragrance factory in Tiruppurkundaram constituency.
People belonging to Mukkalathor constitute a significant vote share in the constituency. AIADMK has fielded sitting MLA from Madurai North constituency VV Rajan Chellappa from Tiruppurkundram. The CPI (M) has fielded SK Pontahay here.
Current DMK MLA from Tiruppurkundram P.P. Saravanan joined the BJP.
